Special Needs Training Institute
In
partnership with Mercy College, Ramapo for Children, JCC of
Mid-Westchester, and the Riverdale YM-YWHA, the JCC on the Hudson will
recruit high-school age students to participate in a college credit
level program, providing training and hands-on experiences working with
individuals with disabilities.
Students are required to commit 75 hours (35 hours community service, 40
hours stipend) working in the various JCC special needs programs. In
addition, each student will participate in five three-hour training
sessions to be held on Sundays from noon to 3:00 p.m. at Mercy College.
Students are supervised and offered opportunities to share experiences
with other students. Successful completion of the internship and course
work will yield one college credit.
SNTI
is limited to 25 students. The program provides an excellent opportunity
for resume building for college and high school community service
requirements. For an interview contact the JCC at 914.366-7898.

Community Service Volunteer Corps
New! (Middle School)
We are offering a
supervised volunteer experience for middle school aged students
interested in working with special needs children. Students will be
Buddies with children who have communication and social deficits.
Buddies will serve as positive role models and will play and practice
social skills with the children. This program is perfect for students
who need to fulfill B’nai Mitzvot requirements or are just interested in
a positive community service experience. After school hours and Sundays
are available for students to learn about challenges that special needs
children confront every day. This program can lead to admission in the
Special Needs Training Institute in which high school age students
receive college credit for their work with special populations.
