Staff Bios
Lois Alterman, MS, Assistant to the Director, ext. 134
Lois has over 30 years experience in early childhood education as a teacher and director
of early childhood programs. Lois was also an adjunct professor of early childhood
education at Seton College, and has taught a variety of workshops to early childhood
educators throughout Westchester.
May Burnett, MFA, Almost Home Director, ext. 139
In addition to serving as Almost Home administrator, May is a professional
artist, makes the very best healthy snacks for AH participants, and has
developed a community service project for children in grades 4, 5 and 6.
May is certified in CPR for the professional rescuer, first aid, and
medication administration, and we are fortunate to have her return for
her sixth year in Almost Home.
Mindy S. Cohen, LMSW,
Special Needs Department Director, ext. 108
Mindy Cohen received her
master's degree in social work from Fordham University with a post
graduate certificate in family therapy. Her work with
children, teens, challenged adults, and parents has ranged from clinical
and therapeutic to instructive and supportive. She has been
serving children, adults with disabilities, and families for over 20
years in schools, recreational programs, summer camps and therapeutic
settings. Mindy has coordinated and supervised the JCC Special
Needs Training Institute since 2004 and is excited to share her vision
for future services at the JCC in her new role as Director of the newly
created Special Needs Department in 2008.
Stefani M. Cohen, LCSW, B’Yachad
Coordinator, ext. 102
Stefani Cohen received her master’s degree in
social work from New York University. As a clinical social worker for
over 20 years, she has worked closely with hundreds of families and
children. Stefani is a humane educator promoting kindness and respect
for all living beings and is certified as an animal assisted therapist
working with her canine companion, Mugsy.
Barbara Davis, BA,
Early Childhood Director, ext. 112
This is Barbara’s sixth year as director of the
JCC Early Childhood Program. She has
been involved in early childhood education for over 25 years as a preschool chairperson,
teacher and director. The varied scope of her experiences has enabled her to
bring into focus the complexities of this very important field.
Lois
Green, BA, Program Director, ext. 104
Lois has been
on the staff of the JCC for over 11 years. As program director, she
is able to use her creative talents and knowledge to offer exciting,
interesting, and relevant programming. The Adult Experience, the
newest direction in programming, has evolved into a thoughtful and
comprehensive compilation of movies, lectures, trips and innovative,
provocative experiences. As a long-time resident, Lois has had
significant experience serving the Westchester community.
Tricia
Gressel, CSW, Coordinator, ext. 144
This will be Tricia’s
tenth year at the JCC. In addition to running the Westchester Network
for People with Disabilities, she is a service coordinator working with
brain-injured people at Ability Beyond Disability in Mt. Kisco.
Previously, Tricia worked with developmentally disabled people at the
Young Adult Institute in Tarrytown as a social worker, case manager, and
clinical supervisor, and at WJCS as a mental health therapist. She
graduated from Fordham University in Tarrytown with a CSW degree.
Ruth Rosenblum, LCSW, B'Yachad
Ruth has been a psychotherapist for 25
years and currently maintains a private practice in Westchester and
Manhattan. She is a longtime student and teacher of holistic and
integrative approaches to health and living. Ruth is a teacher of Jewish
Meditation and Contemplative Practices and is a certified Experiential
Focusing Trainer, a holistic embodied practice for personal development
and healing.
Juliana Santos Kraus, Gymnastics
Coordinator, ext. 145
Juliana is certified
by USA Gymnastics. Originally from Brazil, she has been coaching in the
United States since 1996. She is a certified Yoga and Pilates
instructor, and received certification as a personal trainer by the
National Academy of Sports and Medicine (NASM).
Marianna
Udler, MM, Director,
ext. 110
Marianna Udler, Piano. MM, Mannes College of
Music; BM, Manhattan School of
Music. Piano studies: Nina Svetlanova, Ludmila Ginsburg. Highly in
demand as a recitalist
and chamber musician, Ms. Udler performs regularly as a soloist, chamber
musician
and accompanist in the New York area. She has appeared in concerts
throughout
Europe, New York and Canada. Ms. Udler has pedagogical training and ten
years of
teaching experience.
