“Imagine that all children are seeds that come in a package without a

label. That means we cannot know in what season they will bloom, and we may not always know the conditions

they need to thrive.”

Early Childhood Program

The success and popularity of our Early Childhood Program has enabled us to expand. We now have two Tarrytown locations; our present site at the JCC, with

classrooms at Temple Beth Abraham. Located a short distance from our main location, the JCC will be providing the same high quality programming for 2- to 5-year-olds that families of the Early Childhood Program have come to love and rely upon.

The JCC Early Childhood Program offers a safe, nurturing environment, providing children with the opportunity to develop socially, emotionally and cognitively. We maintain a developmental philosophy emphasizing an emergent curriculum and child-centered classes that concentrate on hands-on experience, experimentation, and creative expression. Jewish values, culture and holidays are an integral part of our program.

Our teaching staff holds a wealth of expertise in early childhood education and is carefully selected for their experience, warmth and sensitivity. Teachers are members of the Jewish Early Childhood Association of the Board of Jewish Education of Greater New York and follow the guidelines of NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children.)

The Early Childhood Program is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

We are happy to introduce our new
Back to Basics Pre-Kindergarten

Beginning in September 2010, our new kindergarten readiness program will serve as a transition for children who have completed a 4’s program and would benefit from an additional year before entering kindergarten. It will be held at our Temple Beth Abraham site and staffed with teachers experienced in pre-kindergarten and early childhood special education.

The curriculum will include:

  • Reading and math readiness

  • Developing writing skills

  • Improving motor skills

Our non-competitive learning environment helps children:

  • Gain independence

  • Build social skills

  • Nurture independence

Hours:

  • 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

  • Extended day 1:00–3:00 p.m.

  • Early morning drop-off

  • After hours 3:00-6:00 p.m.

Transportation is available.

It is never too early to begin thinking about whether your child would benefit from a

kindergarten readiness program. Call Barbara Davis, Early Childhood Director, to discuss your child’s educational needs.

1’s – Wondrous Ones

Parents or caregivers join their one-year-olds for a morning of play, art, snack, and socializing. The morning ends with music and movement, all under the direction of an early childhood professional.

Monday and/or Thursday, 9:15-10:30 a.m.

Turning 2’s

Child’s 2nd birthday must fall between September 1 and April 15.

For children “on the cusp” – just turning two, but not quite ready for our 2’s class. As children adapt to separation, they engage in a multitude of learning experiences, enhancing their confidence and independence.

Tuesday and Friday, 9:15-11:15 a.m.

Calling All 2’s

Child’s 2nd birthday must fall between January 1 and December 31.

Calling All 2’s follows the same format as the 2’s classes. Meeting once a week, it is the perfect addition for children enrolled in a two-day program needing a little more, or it can serve as an introductory class for a preschool newcomer.

Wednesday, 9:15-11:30 a.m.

2’s

Two-year-olds are nurtured and supported as they comfortably separate from their parent/caregiver, develop confidence, gain social adeptness, and master basic skills through a variety of learning experiences geared toward their specific age group.

3’s

Three-year-olds are encouraged to build friendships, verbalize their feelings and experiences, and experiment with a variety of materials, both independently and with the teacher’s guidance. Their self-esteem is nurtured through their increased independence in self-help and small group interactions. Field trips and special events are incorporated into the program.

4’s

Children continue their social skill development as they move into pre-kindergarten activities that stimulate their cognitive growth. Exposure to a varied curriculum, field trips, and special events provide opportunities for learning about the world and developing ideas.

Lunch Bunch
2’s

Begins January 2010

11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

What better way to help in developing social skills than to share lunch around the table with friends. Children also participate in indoor and outdoor play, and relax during a quiet story time. A kosher dairy lunch is brought from home, although there will be times when children make their own lunch in school – always a big hit!

Lunch Bunch is available to children attending Kidspace on days they are not in school. Children will be picked up from Kidspace and brought to the 2’s Lunch Bunch.

3’s

11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m.

Lunch Bunch is an extension of the morning 3’s schedule. Socializing is the name of the game as friends from both classes gather for outdoor play, lunch and an indoor activity such as music, finger plays, stories, or art. On most days, a kosher dairy lunch is brought from home. Parents will be notified when the children will be making their own lunch in school, always a favorite activity!
