Perform-a-thon

Students are invited to participate in a NYSSMA-like festival. To complete each level, students are required to show proficiency in scales, theory and performance of a selected piece. Students will be awarded certificates of completion. A list of requirements can be obtained from individual instructors.

JellyBean Children’s Concerts

Interactive concerts feature guest musicians, instrument demonstrations and tons of hands-on audience participation.

Geared for ages 2-8 but all are welcome. An adult must accompany children.

Arts in February Performance Camp             (Grades K-8)

Performance oriented intensive one-week theater camp.  Daily rehearsals, dance and art classes are dedicated to creating numbers for the Sunday afternoon performance for parents and friends. Campers work in small groups on all aspects of the performance, mastering vocal and acting technique, choreography, dialogue, and creating simple sets and costumes. An experienced staff with extensive theater background creates a professional and fun atmosphere that kids enjoy.

Make-up classes: scheduled only for lessons missed by the teacher, or cancelled by the School of Music & Performing Arts due to inclement weather. Lessons missed by students are not re-scheduled.

Little Pianists                                                  (4-7 Years)

Little Pianists is a fun-filled introduction to piano playing based on the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based on the principle that young children can develop instrumental skills through listening, imitation and repetition. This group class is intended to prepare children for private music lessons. Class size limited.

Music Theory And Ear Training                          (7 Years & Up)

This course is designed to give beginning students an introduction to basic music theory. Theory games reinforce topics discussed while creating a fun and interactive learning environment. Theory subjects include music reading in clefs, simple rhythmic notation, and basic theoretical principles. No prior knowledge is necessary.

Chamber Music

Under the guidance of dedicated coaches, musicians explore intermediate and advanced repertoire. Sessions concentrate on interpretation, technique, sound production, and sound quality. Master classes and performance opportunities will be offered. Groups will be formed based on technical ability, repertoire interest, and scheduling constraints. Existing groups are welcome.

Theatre Program

A nurturing professional staff offers theatrical performance training.

We provide an enjoyable learning experience while instilling a respect for theatre and a professional attitude. Our students develop skills while finding their own voice, building composure and confidence for all their pursuits, not just those in the world of theatre.

 

Fairy Tale Theatre                                            (4-5 Years)

This class introduces acting, characterization, and story telling in a fun, nurturing, and age-appropriate environment. Using acting techniques, improv, and pantomime, kids will play, laugh and have fun while learning to use their bodies and voices onstage. Students will have the opportunity to act out some of their favorite fairy tales, including “Hansel & Gretl,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” and “Rapunzel” to name just a few.  We will share our work with an invited audience during our final class.

Junior Productions on Broadway                       (6-12 Years)

Students are trained in every aspect of staging a professional musical theatre production. While rehearsing for the show, which will be performed live onstage, students are encouraged to abandon their inhibitions as they learn voice, movement, acting technique, characterization, improv, mime, audition technique, and much more! Students will go through the audition process and everyone will be cast in an appropriate role chosen to stretch, challenge, and showcase their individual unique talents.

It’s time to stop thinking that everyone except you can play the piano. Let a professional pianist teach you fundamental techniques, rhythm, proper hand position, and sight-reading through simple, tuneful pieces. Learn to play or refresh your skills.

Chamber Music

Chamber ensemble experience enhances instrumental skills while offering students an opportunity to play in small chamber combinations. Grouped into duos, trios, violin ensemble, piano duets, and jazz ensemble, intermediate and advanced instrumentalists learn the art of ensemble playing from faculty coaches. Adults and existing groups welcome.

Summer is a great time to start or continue your music education. All students are encouraged to enroll in “summer school.” Flexible schedule allows students to continue or start lessons with faculty members of the school. Morning, afternoon and evening classes can be arranged.

Performing Arts in August includes a trip to a matinee performance of a Broadway show. An adult must accompany campers younger than seven. The adult ticket must be requested and paid for upon registration.

BM, Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, Israel. Faculty member Long Lake Camp for the Arts, NY. Former faculty member Reut Regional Conservatory, Yahudand, and Nes-Ziona Regional Conservatories, Israel. Active performer with various bands.

 


 

Bonnie Ditrich, Piano, Group Piano
BA in Music, CUNY, Suzuki Training Diploma, School for Strings, New York Extensive experience teaching Suzuki private lessons and in groups. Former faculty member of Thurnauer Music School and Bronx House Music School. Solo piano recitals in local community venues and CAMI Hall. Member of the several chamber music groups performing in the New York area.

 


Mikhail Ledyaykin, Piano
BA, MM Manhattan School of Music. Solo debut at the Kiev State Philharmonic Hall at the age of 14. He has since enjoyed an active career as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Mr. Ledyaykin appeared in concerts throughout Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, including Steinway Hall in NYC, Shandelee Music Festival, NY, and Great Hall of Kiev State Conservatory, Ukraine. He is a winner of the Ukraine State Chamber Music Competition.

MA, Hunter College; EdD, Teachers College, Columbia University . Additional graduate studies Manhattan School of Music. Performances with Hudson Valley Philharmonic and Broadway shows: Dancin’, 42nd Street, Sweet Charity, Tap Dance Kid, Stardust, A Chorus Line, Beauty and the Beast. Adjunct faculty, Mercy College , faculty member of Music Conservatory of Westchester .

 


Sergey Nazarov, Violin  
MM, BM, Manhattan School of Music. Violin studies: Michael Gilbert, Ariana Bronne, and Albert Markov. Soloist with Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra; Lyric Mountain Festival. Former Concertmaster: New York Debut Orchestra and Festival dei Due Mondi, Spoleto, Italy. Winner: Odessa State Conservatory Chamber Music Competition. Mr. Nazarov performs regularly in New York area and has extensively performed throughout the US, as well as in Ukraine, Europe, Israel and Brazil.  

 


 

Jeffrey Szabo, Cello
MM SUNY at Stony Brook. Cello studies with Bernard Greenhouse. Recipient of numerous awards including Distinguished String Award at Interlochen. Performances with St. Lukes Chamber Players, New Repertory Ensemble of New York, Parnassus and many others. Orchestral engagements with American Symphony Orchestra, St. Lukes Orchestra, Little Orchestra Society, New Jersey Philharmonic. Faculty member of New York University, Chatauqua Music School.

JCC Maccabi Artsfest is a premier arts and Maccabi experience for Jewish teens, grades 8-12. Participants choose an art specialty and take part in performances and master classes. This annual summer experience, held in selected communities throughout North America, features a wide variety of social activities, artists-in-residence who are at the top of their fields, opening and closing events and performances, and community service, while it strengthens bonds to Jewish heritage, community, and Israel.

Art specialties have included: Rock/Pop Bands, Dance/Choreography, Filmmaking, Visual Arts, Jazz/World Music, Classical Music, Acting, Music Theatre, Photography, Creative Writing, Costume Design, Vocal Music, and Culinary Arts.

Our JCC sent its first delegation to the JCC Maccabi ArtsFest in Minneapolis, Minnesota this August.
