Parenting is the hardest job on Earth. Join other parents to discuss the challenges and rewards, and to address topics such as:

Living with the Loss of a Pet                         New!

Anyone who has ever shared their life with a four-footed companion knows how special this relationship is. When a beloved companion animal dies there is often a large void. Society as a whole does not provide any rituals for helping to deal with this loss. This support group will attempt to do this.

Grade School Classes        
 

Karate I (formerly Karate for Beginners)            (Kindergarten)

Students who participated in karate instruction with Sensei Bob while in the JCC Early Childhood Program are invited to continue their studies after school. This high-energy class for beginners focuses on skill development, discipline, strength, flexibility, and most importantly, self esteem. Associated with the New York Goju Karate Association.

Karate II                                                                   (Grade 1*)

*Prerequisite Karate I (formerly Karate for Beginners)

Students continue their karate skill development, enhancing discipline, strength, flexibility and self-esteem. Associated with the New York Goju Karate Association.

Karate                                                                      (Grades 1-6)

Learn discipline and control by practicing movements that develop mind-body coordination. This non-competitive program encourages healthy exercise and builds a positive self-image. Children with mild physical or developmental disabilities will be assisted by additional staff and require a brief intake before enrolling. enrollment of children requiring 1:1 will be contingent upon our ability to engage appropriate staff.

Parent/Child Karate                        New!         (all ages, all ranks)

Learn basic karate and self-defense skills while spending quality time with each other. Not only will you and your kid learn discipline, body control and many other things, but by training and practicing together, you will develop a common interest – a benefit that lasts a lifetime.

Adults without children are welcome.

Adventures in Jewish Culture              New!         (Grades K-2)

Explore Jewish culture through crafts, cooking, stories, and holiday celebrations. Learn about Israel, its people, and a little Hebrew through games and songs. Fee includes materials.

Instructor: Hasia Monselise, a native Israeli, teaches at the Solomon Schechter Hebrew Day School.

Bead Dazzled             (Grades K-2)                       New!

Beading is a fun way to be expressive while creating detailed projects including key chains for backpacks, book marks, picture frames, and sun catchers, as well as bracelets, necklaces, and rings.

A performance oriented class focusing on singing techniques and the various dance disciplines geared to a semester-end review.

Tutoring
Build confidence by improving academic skills. A certified teacher helps students:

  • understand schoolwork and prepare for the next lesson
  • organize and understand facts, thoughts, and concepts
  • memorize and take tests
  • research, take notes, write, revise, and edit reports and essays
  • complete project on time
